Become a volunteer at Oslo Pix 2019!

The third version of the international film festival Oslo Pix is right around the corner and we are looking for committed volunteers to help out. As a volunteer at Oslo Pix you will be given a unique opportunity to experience and see how a film festival works from the inside. We have a variety of roles/groups to choose between. You can read more about the different volunteer groups and what it means to be part of each group below. Deadline for applications is May 16th.

You need to be 18 years or older in order to register as a volunteer.

Do you have any questions? Do not hesitate to contact us at frivillig@festivalkontoret.no

In the registration form you will be asked to prioritize which area or group you would most likely want to be part of and we would also want you to tell a bit more about your motivation for volunteering with us. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee everyone their first choice, however we’ll do our best to make sure everyone is satisfied!

Here are the different tasks and roles you can choose between as a volunteer:

Cinema host and info stand

This is the biggest group of volunteers at the festival and it will be representing Oslo Pix to the audience. This means that you will be at the info stand and be available in the festival area between Saga and Klingenberg cinema in the afternoon and at night. Your biggest task will be to familiarize yourself with the festival and the program in order to answer practical questions, inspire the audience and make sure that information is available at the various festival locations. You will also be helping out at the screenings, such as administrating the tickets and handing out accreditations to guests, and as a cinema host you will be helping out between/during screenings at Saga, Klingenberg and Vega Scene. It is important that you are service-minded and prepared to help out in various situations.

Runner/driver/distribution

We are in need of people who know the ins and outs of the city and who are willing to set aside some time prior to the festival, but also during the festival. Already in mid-May this group will be distributing the festival magazine and flyers, and during the festival this group will get various tasks in different areas when necessary. If you are flexible and feel like you want some all-round experience, this is the group for you! It is an advantage if you are an experienced driver and that you are comfortable driving in the city, although it is not a requirement. Together we will work out a schedule that fits both of us.

Event

The event group makes sure that all the practicalities associated with the various events go smoothly. These events will include among others the opening party, the closing party, special screenings, Q&As and receptions. This group will be responsible for rigging, catering, purchasing different necessities and a whole lot of other tasks in order to ensure the greatest possible festival for our audience!

Decorating/scenography

This is a small group that will be working prior to the festival, building and making the decorations for the festival street and the special screenings. It is definitely an advantage if you have experience with painting, sowing, with carpentry or similar crafts. This group will also be responsible for assembling and disassembling the decorations in the festival street on Monday 3rdof June during the day and Sunday 9thof June at night.

Rigging

This group will help out with rigging the festival area between Saga and Klingenberg. This includes putting up tents, a stage, a bar, big screens and a catering area. You have to be available in the morning on Monday 3rdof June and Sunday 9thof June at night. It is also an advantage if you have done similar work before.

Bar

You will be catering at the bar in the festival area between Saga and Klingenberg in the period between the 3rdand 9thof June. Together with the bar manager you will be helping out selling beer and other drinks to our audience between the screenings, but also during the film discussions and at other various events. It is an advantage if you have experience from working in a bar or if you have worked as a bar volunteer at a festival.

Guest guide

A lot of international filmmakers, actors and actresses, and other guests will be visiting the festival and it is your job as a guest guide to greet your guest and make sure that everything runs smoothly for the guest during his/her stay in Oslo. You will meet your guest at the airport, answer any practical questions relating to the festival/Oslo and make sure that they make it to their appointments. You need to be flexible and have time to volunteer both during the day and night. It is an advantage if you speak fluent English and it is also great if you speak other European languages.

Web editing

This team will be responsible for oslopix.no and social media during the festival. The volunteer writers will assist the editor in various tasks, among them interviews, covering different events and launching program teasers. The writing will be both in Norwegian and English, so it is crucial that you feel comfortable writing in both languages. You also have to be quite flexible during the festival and it is an advantage if you have some prior knowledge of photography.

Program guide

As a program guide you will get a thorough presentation of the program prior to the festival and you will be working at the info stand in the festival street informing our audience about our program. For this role it is necessary that you have some time to really get to know the program and that you are willing to make an extra effort prior to the festival! As a reward you will be able to go and see a lot of films during the festival. It is an advantage if you are a film enthusiast, outgoing and feel comfortable informing people about various films.

A bit of everything

If you want some experience working with different tasks this is the group for you. No one day will be the same! You need to be curious, flexible and be good at handling different challenges.

What do we expect from our volunteers?

We expect that you show up on time and that you contribute during your working hours. As a volunteer you are obligated to work approximately 15 hours, although in total it will usually be around 20 hours. The film festival lasts for 7 days so you will have a lot of time to go and see films! After the festival we will give you a certificate that documents your effort at the festival.

What do I get as a volunteer?

As a volunteer you get a week pass to the festival valued at 780NOK. The pass will give you admission to all the film screenings and the events during the festival. The volunteers will also be invited to a program release party prior to the festival and they will be given a festival t-shirt and a tote bag. However, most important: you will meet so many amazing people, you will gain some valuable work experience and get to know the ins and outs of a big film festival!

We hope that you want to contribute to making this years festival the best ever!
